Start

The characters are travelling to meet their patron (Vellynne Harpell) at the Northlook Inn just inside the North Gate of Bryn Shander.

As they approach the tavern they come across a couple of ghouls devouring a corpse.

After despatching the ghouls the characters meet the town sheriff Markham Southwell and Father Lake the head of the Children of Auril cult of Iceland Dale.

• [x] The ghoul did not kill the victim. The victim has a perfect stab wound in his chest with an icy dagger in it.
• [x] The dagger remains frozen until withdrawn from the body then it melts
• [x] There have been victims in other towns.
• [x] The victim of the ghouls in this case (Peter Parker) had been selected in the lottery as the next sacrifice to Auril but his family had bribed the officials to choose someone else.
• [x] The people of Ten Towns are struggling. No one is coming to help, no one knows why Auril is behaving this way.
• [x] Each town has chosen to make a sacrifice to Auril to keep the towns from going fully into darkness.
• [x] For smaller towns it is food, others gold, and for some a human sacrifice is made.
• [x] In large towns like Bryn Shander a lottery is drawn and a human sacrifice is chosen at random.
• [x] It is rumoured that you can bribe the lottery so that you are not chosen, or your enemy will be be chosen.
